مار غريغوريوس عبد الجليل ومار أوسطاثيوس صليبا
نهدي البركة الرسولية لعزيزنا الروحي نيافة المتروبوليت بار ريغيش مار ديونوسيوس توما رئيس مجمعنا الأسقفي المكاني المقدس في الهند، وأصحاب النيافة سائر مطارنتنا الآخرين، وأبنائنا الروحيين الأعزاء، الخورانة الموقرين، والرهبان المكرسين، والكهنة الاعزاء وحضرات الشمامسة، والراهبات المتفانيات، وكل المؤمنين في كنيستنا السريانية الأرثوذكسية في الهند.
يملؤنا سرور غامر ونحن نرسل إليكم هذا المنشور الرسولي. فها هو الرسول بولس يقول في رسالته إلى العبرانيين:
«اذكروا مرشديكم الذين كلموكم بكلمة الله. انظروا إلى نهاية سيرتهم فتمثلوا بإيمانهم».(عبرانيين 7:13)، طالما قبلت كنيستنا الرسولية المقدسة وتذكرت رسل المسيح الحقيقيين وقد تم الاعتراف في البدء بكل القديسين وقبولهم في المجتمعات المحلية التي عاشوا وعملوا فيها وانتقلوا إلى الخدور العلوية. وبعد ذلك ومع انتشار أخبار حياتهم الطاهرة وأعمالهم المقدسة إلى الخارج وبدء المزيد من الناس في السعي طلباً لشفاعتهم امام اللّه فقد أُدرجت اسماؤهم في صلوات كنيستنا وقداديسها. وها نحن نستعيد إلى الذاكرة منشورنا الرسولي الذي أصدرناه في 20 تشرين الأول 1987 الذي سمحنا لكم فيه أن يدرج اسم القديس مار توما الرسول في الشملاية الرابعة في القداس الإلهي وكذلك اسم البطريرك القديس مار الياس الثالث واسم المفريان القديس مار باسيليوس يلدو والمتروبوليت القديس غريغوريوس مطران بارومالا في الشملاية الخامسة التي تتلى ضمن القداس الإلهي. نمجد اللّه لأنه منحنا نعمة القيام بذلك.
والآن قام مجمعنا المكاني المقدس في الهند من خلال رئيسه عزيزنا الروحي نيافة المتروبوليت بار ريغيش مار ديونسيوس توما بالتماس توجيه عنايتنا إلى حياة واعمال المطرانين الراحلين مار غريغوريوس عبد الجليل ومار أسطاثيوس صليبا.
ولد مار غريغوريوس عبد الجليل في الموصل العراق. وكان في البدء متروبوليتاً لدياربكر ثم نقل بعد ذلك إلى القدس وبعد ذلك أرسله بطريرك إنطاكية في ذلك الحين عبد المسيح الأول إلى الهند بناء على طلب كنيستنا هناك. فوصل مالانكارا في عام 1665 م. في ذلك الحين كان شعبنا هناك يعاني من الإضطهاد على يد الإرساليات الرومانية اللاتينية وبعض الحكام المحليين. وكان العديد من الممارسات الطقسية الغريبة عن الإيمان الرسولي المقدس لكنيستنا قد تسلل إليها.
وبمحبةٍ وأناةٍ وعبر سبل سلمية قام مار غريغوريوس بتعليم الشعب الإيمان الرسولي الحق. كان عليه أن يواجه العديد من التهديدات حتى تلك التي استهدفت حياته إلا أنه تحدى كل الإحتمالات الصعبة بوضع ثقته بالله العلي القدير، وبصلواته وتقواه استقطب النفوس إلى ربنا يسوع المسيح. كما قام مار غريغوريوس ايضاً برسامة مطرانين لكنيستنا في مالانكرا وقد قضى أيامه الأخيرة في كنيسة القديس توما في بارا فور الشمالية في أبرشية انكامالي، وانتقل إلى الخدور العلوية في 27 نيسان عام 1681 ودفن في تلك الكنيسة، «لقد جاهد الجهاد الحسن وأكمل السّعي وحفظ الإيمان واخيراً قد وضع له إكليل البر الذي يهبه له في ذلك اليوم الرب الديان العادل». (2تي 4: 7 ـ 8)
أما مار أوسطاثيوس صليبا فقد رسم متروبوليتاً على أبرشية القدس وأرسل إلى الهند موفداً بطريركياً في عام 1908 من قِبل البطريرك مار إغناطيوس عبد اللّه الثاني. كان أصلاً من أهالي قرية كفرسو قرب دياربكر في تركيا. وقبل ذلك الحين أقام في مالانكارا عدة سنوات كشماس وخلال تلك الفترة كان يقوم بالتبشير بإنجيل ربنا بشكل منتظم ضمن كنيستنا وخارجها. وخلال شَغلِه منصب الموفد البطريركي كان عليه أن يواجه العديد من التحديات، منذ عام 1911 فصاعداً قام بعض الضالين والمضلين من داخل كنيستنا وبدؤوا يعلّمون تعاليم زائفة، كما أن بعض المجموعات المهرطقة الموجودة خارج كنيستنا كانت أيضاً تحاول إبعاد المؤمنين عن كنيستنا. تصدى لهم جميعاً مار أوسطاثيوس ولم يبق متفرجاً صامتاً فقد دافع بحماس عن إيمان كنيستنا الرسولي المقدس وبالتعاون مع مطارنة كنيستنا في مالانكارا أرشد المؤمنين إلى طريق الحق. كان رائداً من رواد حركة التعليم الديني (مدارس الأحد) في مالانكالا، وقد أسس في أرثاث في أبرشية ( كونا مكولام ) الكنيسة الشهيرة (كنائس الكرسي الرسولي الانطاكي باسم القديسة مريم العذراء). كما تم أيضاً في عهده تأسيس دير (ملاكورش) الذي ترجع ملكيته لكرسي أنطاكية المقدس، كتب مار أسطاثيوس صليبا كتابين، دفاعاً عن إيماننا. وبالرغم من منصبه السامي كموفد بطريركي فقد عاش حياة بسيطة. كان دأبه إلى الصلاة مضرب المثل وانتشرت أخبار تقواه في طول البلاد وعرضها، سعى الناس طالبين صلواته الشفاعية الخاصة حتى وهو على قيد الحياة. فصلواته أبرأت العديد من المرضى وحلت على من لا ينجبون بركة إنجاب الأطفال وقد دعاه اللّه إلى الراحة الأبدية في 19 آذار 1930 . ودفن جسده الطاهر في كنيسة (سيمها سانا). أي كنيسة الكرسي الرسولي في أرثاث. لقد برهن على أنه الراعي الصالح للقطيع الذي أُودِع في عهدته.
إننا إذ نستعرض حياة وأعمال مار غريغوريوس عبد الجليل ومار أسطاثيوس صليبا ومع الأخذ بعين الاعتبار حقيقة أن الآلاف من المؤمنين يزورون ضريحيهما باستمرار طالبين شفاعتهما، لعلى قناعة تامة بقداستهما لذا وانطلاقاً من السلطة الرسولية المخولة لنا من الرب يسوع وبموجبها نطّوب مار غريغوريوس عبد الجليل ومار أسطاثيوس صليبا قديسين ونسمح لكما بتلاوة (القوقليون) أي التشمشت الخاص بالقديسين الذي يتلى خلال صلوات المساء والقداس الإلهي أن يتلى (zadeeko) عند ضريحيهما وكلما ورد ذكرهما وأن تطلبوا شفاعتهما. في هذه المناسبة المهيبة نحثكم على الحذو حذوهما في إيمانهما وعلى تكريس أنفسكم للّه من جديد. ولتكن شفاعتهما بركة لكم ولنا جميعاً، ونهدي بركتنا الرسولية.
ولتكن نعمة اللّه معكم بشفاعة القديسة العذراء مريم والدة الإله والقديس مار بطرس هامة الرسل والقديس مار توما رسول الهند والقديس مار غريغوريوس عبد الجليل والقديس مار أسطاثيوس صليبا وجميع القديسين آمين.
Apostolic Benediction to our beloved Metropolitan His Grace Bar Regesh Mor Dionosius Thomas the President of our Holy Episcopal Synod in India, Their Graces all our other Metropolitans, and our beloved Spiritual children- the Venerable Corepiscopos, the Dedicated Dayaroyos, the Esteemed Priests, the Rev. Deacons, the Devoted Nuns and all the faithful of our Syrian Orthodox Church in India.
We have great joy in sending you this Apostolic Bull. In his Epistle to the Hebrews the Apostle St. Paul says: “Remember your leaders, those who spoke to you the word of God, consider the outcome of their life, and imitate their faith”. (Hebrew 13:7). Our Holy Apostolic church has always received and remembered the true messengers of Christ. All Saints were first recognized and accepted in the localities where they lived, worked and died. Later on, as the news of their holy lives and works spread abroad, and more and more people began to seek their intercession before God, their names were included in the prayers and Holy Services of our Church. We recall our Apostolic Bull No.E265/87 dated October 20, 1987 whereby we permitted you to include the name of St. Thomas the Apostle in the fourth Tubden (Diphtooko) and the names of Patriarch St. Elias III, Maphriyono Saint Baselios Yeldo and Metropolitan St. Gregorios of Parumala in the fifth Thubden of the Holy Eucharist Service. We glorify God for having given us the grace to do so.
Now, our Holy Episcopal Synod in India, through its President our beloved Metropolitan His Grace Bar Regesh Mor Dionosius Thomas, has beseeched our attention to the lives and works of Their Graces the late Metropolitans Mor Gregorios Abdul Jaleel of North Paravur and Mor Osthatheos Saliba of Kunnamkulam.
Mor Gregorios Abdul Jaleel was born in Mosul, Iraq. He was at first the Metropolitan of Dyerbecker and thereafter was transferred to Jerusalem. He was later sent to India by the then Patriarch of Antioch Abdulmessih the First in response to the request of our Church there. He reached Malankara in AD 1665. At that time our people there were being persecuted by Roman Missionaries and by some local rulers. Many religious practices alien to the Holy Apostolic Faith of our Church had also crept in. With love and patience and through peaceful means Mor Gregorios taught the people the true Apostolic Faith. He had to face many threats; even to his own life. But placing his trust in God Almighty, he braved all odds. By his prayers and piety he gained souls for our Lord Jesus Christ. Mor Gregorios also consecrated two Bishops for our Church in Malankara. His last days were spent at our St. Thomas Syrian Orthodox Church of North Paravur in the Diocese of Ankamally. He entered his heavenly abode on April 27, 1681 and was entombed at that Church. He fought the good fight, finished the race, and kept the faith.
Mor Osthaheos Saliba was consecrated Metropolitan at Jerusalem and sent to India as Patriarchal Delegate in 1908 by the Late Patriarch Mor Abdulla II. He was a native of the village of Kafarso near Dyerbecker in Turkey. Earlier he was in Malankara for many years as a deacon, and during that period he regularly preached the Holy Gospel of our Lord both within our Church and outside. During his tenure as Patriarchal Delegate, he had to face many challenges. From 1911 onwards rebellious leaders arose from within our Church and began to teach false doctrines. Some heretic groups outside our Church were also trying to wean away our faithful. Mor Osthatheos rose up to the occasion. He did not remain a silent spectator; he actively defended the Holy Apostolic Faith of our Church. In co-operation with the Metropolitans of our Church in Malankara he guided the faithful in the way of truth. He was a pioneer of the Sunday School movement in Malankara. He founded the famous St. Mary’s Simhasana Church of Arthat, Kunnamkulam. The Malelcruz Dayara, Puthencruz, too, owned by the Holy See of Antioch, was established in his time. He wrote two books in defence of our Faith- the Jacobites and the Messianic Character. In spite of his high office as the Patriarchal Delegate, he led a simple life. His perseverance in prayer was exemplary. His piety was known far and wide. People sought his special intercessory prayers even during his lifetime. His prayers healed many sick, and those who were childless were blessed with children. God called him to his eternal rest on March 19, 1930. His mortal remains were interred at our Arthat Simhasana Church. He proved a good shepherd of the flock entrusted to his care.
Going through the lives and works of Mor Gregorios Abdul Jaleel and Mor Osthatheos Saliba, and considering the fact that throughout the year thousands of believers are visiting their tombs beseeching their intercession, we are convinced of their saintliness. We, therefore, in accordance with the Apostolic authority vested in us, hereby declare Mor Gregorios Abdul Jaleel and Mor Osthatheos Saliba SAINTS, and permit you to recite the Kukkilion for the Saints (Zadeeko) at their holy tombs and whenever you remember them and beseech their intercession. On this solemn occasion, we exhort you to imitate their faith and rededicate yourselves to God. May their intercession be a blessing to all.
We extend our Apostolic Blessings to you. May the grace of God be with you through the intercession of St. Virgin Mary the Mother of God, St. Peter the Chief of the Apostles, St. Thomas the Apostle of India, St. Gregorios Abdul Jaleel, St. Osthatheos Saliba and all other Saints. Amen.
